The Friends of the Library are an important support group for Innisfil Public Library and the people who use it. Not only does a well equipped library benefit all of us now, but it will be of value to our children and grandchildren. The Friends’ efforts demonstrate what citizen participation can do for a community and for those who get involved. An active Friends group will ensure a strong library for future generations.
The Friends of the Library group promotes the library by raising awareness of the library in the community as well as fundraising for a variety of projects.
Some projects made possible through the Friends’ efforts are: Writer in Residence (2004 and 2009), murals, a bursary for local high school students and the purchase of equipment. In addition, the Friends sponsor special events and assist in community events such as Pitch-in-Day. One of the most successful Friends projects is the library’s Books for Babies program. This program gives a book to new Innisfil babies and provides parents with resources to guide them in supporting their child’s literacy development.
